Fireman saves dog from Los Angeles River

News crews captured this amazing video of Los Angeles firefighter Joe St. Georges rescuing a German Shepherd mix from the Los Angeles River. The firefighter suffered a bite to his had but was ok. When asked about his bite injury St. Georges shrugged it off and said, "He did what dogs do." The German Shepherd mix was taken to a nearby shelter and was named "Vernon." Help the animals of Haiti

ASPCA, Best Friends Animal Society, American Humane Association and The Humane Society International joined the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti to help the animals affected by the earthquake.

World's oldest dog dies

The world's oldest dog died last Friday. Chanel, a wire-haired dachshund, was 21 - that is the equivalent of 147 human years. She died of natural causes at her owners' home.

Gibson, the world's tallest dog has died from cancer at the age of 7. The Harlequin Great Dane was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive, bone cancer in April. This is probably not a surprise to many dog owners, but according to a recent study by canine researcher, Stanley Coren, PhD, of the University of British Columbia, the average dog is as intelligent as a two year old child.

Dogs understand human pointing gestures as well as two-year-old children, according to two studies.

That's not all. Due to domestication, dogs appear to be predisposed to read other human visual signals, including head turning and gazing, according to Discovery News. The studies suggest that dogs may understand us better than chimpanzees.

Chicago Police Dog is Missing For the Second Time

So a Chicago police detective managed to lose his German Shepherd police dog, Bear, for the second time in two months. Both times the dog was left unattended in the officer's backyard. What's up with that? Let's hope when Bear is found he gets a new partner that will keep better track of him.

Perciaccanto found that hyper and out of control dogs are most often fed dog foods that have higher levels of wheat, corn and corn meal, while aggressive dogs are fed dog foods that have incomplete proteins that do not digest well.
